Become an NRA Instructor

If you love shooting sports, teaching others and think you might like to provide safe use of firearms, then you may make a great NRA Instructor! As a Certified NRA Instructor you're the spearhead of the world's gold standard of firearm training.  You can train individuals for their Florida CWP or their favorite NRA discipline.

How to secure your NRA Instructor training certificate:

The NRA Instructor Training Program is designed to train experienced shooters to teach NRA Basic Firearm Training Courses as NRA Certified Instructors.  Instructor training courses are conducted by NRA Appointed Training Counselors.

Step 1:  NRA Basics of Pistol Student Course

bulletEveryone who want to become an NRA Instructor must first take the NRA Basics of Pistol Course as a student.  It’s a one day course and is mandated by the NRA for all Instructor candidates.   My recommendation is to take the NRA Basics of Pistol Instructor Led Only course, it’s a one-day course and It will be the main NRA course you’ll be instructing.  The online Basics of Pistol course does not qualify as the Instructor prequalification must include live fire.  You can find a course near you at www.nrainstructors.org

Step 2:  NRA Instructor Course

BIT (Basic Instructor Training) - 6 hours longThis class involves at minimum 6 hours of training of Basic Instructor Training (BIT).  This teaches you to train the 'NRA way.'  It involves understanding NRA Code of Ethics, training disciplines and how to best engage your students.

Basic Pistol - 10 hours long:  The course goal is to develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skill and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course.

In this class you will be trained on pistol knowledge, safe handling, ammunition knowledge, pistol shooting fundamentals, scoring targets and maintaining and keeping a pistol.  Range requirements and shooting accuracy are a part of passing this course.
